- Anyone 19 or older may apply for a marriage licence.
- Anyone under 19 must have the consent of both parents.
- If either person was recently divorced, the divorce must be finalized before a licence can be issued. Proof of the finalized divorce is required.
- Blood tests are not required in British Columbia.
- Only one person from the couple needs to apply in person.
- The current marriage licence fee is $100 and is payable when applying.
- Identification is required for both applicants, normally showing their full legal name, date of birth and place of birth.
- Information about current marital status and address is also required.
- A marriage licence is issued immediately, is non-refundable, and cannot be extended beyond three months.
- If the licence is lost, a replacement can be obtained from the original issuer.
